Sport Premium Impact 2018-19

Primary PE at Thanet and the sports premium

The aim is to develop a progressive set of skills for the children to learn across a range of sports.  Sports Premium Funding is used in addition to teaching the national curriculum.

We employ Kay McCann as Sports Coach to deliver PE lessons and to run after school sports clubs, tournaments and lunchtime sports clubs.

All pupils leaving primary school should be physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

We aim to achieve self-sustaining long-lasting improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools.

To do this, we will use the following indicators:

  • The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - kick-starting healthy active lifestyles.
  • Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  • The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • Increased participation in competitive sport

Uses for the funding might include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or other qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers.
  • Identifying and engaging the least active children through new or additional Change4Life clubs.
  • Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport.
  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport.
  • Running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games its children.
  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport.
  • Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs
